Skim Scan Confirm is a simple reading routine for exam tasks and academic texts.
Step 1: Skim
Read quickly for the general topic and structure. Do not stop for unknown words.
Look for:
- title
- first and last sentence of paragraphs
- repeated words
- contrast words such as however and although
Step 2: Scan
Search for names, numbers, dates, keywords, and synonyms from the question.
If the question says benefit, the text may say advantage, helps, or useful.
Step 3: Confirm
Read the sentence before and after the answer. Make sure the meaning matches the question.
This step prevents the most common reading mistake: finding the same word but missing the meaning.
Practice
Use this checklist on one paragraph today:
- Write the main topic in five words.
- Circle two keywords.
- Find one synonym.
- Confirm the answer with one full sentence.
Reading speed improves when accuracy has a process.

مرحله ۱: Skim
سریع بخوان تا موضوع کلی و ساختار متن را بفهمی. برای کلمه های ناآشنا توقف نکن.
دنبال این ها بگرد:
- عنوان
- جمله اول و آخر پاراگراف ها
- کلمه های تکراری
- کلمه های تضاد مثل however و although
مرحله ۲: Scan
دنبال اسم ها، عددها، تاریخ ها، کلمه های کلیدی و مترادف های سوال بگرد.
اگر سوال می گوید benefit، متن ممکن است بگوید advantage، helps یا useful.
مرحله ۳: Confirm
جمله قبل و بعد از جواب را بخوان. مطمئن شو معنی با سوال هماهنگ است.
این مرحله جلوی رایج ترین خطای ریدینگ را می گیرد: پیدا کردن همان کلمه، اما از دست دادن معنی.
تمرین
امروز این چک لیست را روی یک پاراگراف استفاده کن:
- موضوع اصلی را در پنج کلمه بنویس.
- دو کلمه کلیدی را مشخص کن.
- یک مترادف پیدا کن.
- جواب را با یک جمله کامل تایید کن.
سرعت ریدینگ وقتی بهتر می شود که دقت یک روند مشخص داشته باشد.
